Fagradalsfjall erupted…so what?

What does the eruption of Fagradalsfjall mean for Icelandic tourism? Generally one huge attraction more, biger number of tourists, and therefore more income. It is obvious. I pay attention to another aspect – the autonomous and attractive region of the Reykjanes peninsula has shown. Until now, the closest vicinity of the Keflavik airport has been treated by guides and tourists as option 8-9 when visiting the South of Iceland. With the classic Ring Road (traveling around Iceland) there was often no time to visit this beautiful area. Now that will change, the Fagradalsfjall magnet will be too strong! We will see the eruption site, the freshest lava in the world plus Gunnuhver, Krysuvik, the beautiful Graenavatn Lake, the Intercontinental Bridge, Sandvik beach, we will end the day in the Blue Lagoon or in Reykjavik. It becomes a very attractive „must do day”. Unfortunately time is not made of rubber… we will see Reykjanes with Fagradalsfjall… we will not see…exacly…what? Diamond Beach? Snaefellsnes Peninsula? Glymur Waterfall? A few attractions in the North? I’m even afraid to name them … I already have a serious headache how to arrange the route for the May Ring Road expedition (17-24 of May). Can the volcano be missing? No. At the cost of what? I do not know yet. I guess it remains to make trips a day longer. Dear airlines – please adapt flight schedules to the needs of your customers. Planes arriving on Mondays should return on Tuesdays a week later 🙂 BTW price for Ring Road trip is still the same – 600 euro for week. Not much. Especially that the volcano may still be seen during the eruption. Interested? Send us e-mail on icetrips2020@gmail.com
